Coming out of this terminal

This page exists mainly to tell you something a terminal page usually does not have to: you cannot be met at Stuttgart Terminal 2, because Terminal 2 handles departures only. There is no arrivals hall in the building. Terminals 1, 3 and 4 take the arriving flights.

That catches people out in a specific and predictable way. You fly out of Stuttgart with Lufthansa, you check in at Terminal 2, you remember Terminal 2 — and a fortnight later you tell whoever is collecting you to meet you at Terminal 2. They wait outside a departures hall while you stand in Terminal 1 or 3 wondering where they are.

For a departure, Terminal 2 is exactly where you want dropping: it is the Lufthansa and Star Alliance check-in, in the middle of the row, under the same roof as Terminals 1 and 3. The forecourt gives eight free minutes, which is enough to unload but not to see somebody through the door.

Where your driver stands

On the way out, your driver drops you at the Terminal 2 kerb, at the check-in you are actually using. On the way back, you are met inside the arrivals hall of whichever terminal your flight lands at — taken from the flight number, which is the only reliable source for it.

This is a good illustration of why we ask for a flight number rather than a terminal. A terminal on a booking form is a memory of a previous trip about as often as it is a fact about this one.

If you land at a different terminal

If you have arranged to be met at Terminal 2, the fix is a short walk: the terminals stand in a row along one road, five to ten minutes end to end, with a free shuttle every ten to fifteen minutes. Nobody is stranded. But it is an avoidable ten minutes with luggage, and avoiding it is the entire reason this page says so up front.

Departures only

This terminal handles departures only and has no arrivals hall. Arriving flights are met at one of the terminals that does.

FAQ

Questions about this terminal

Can I be picked up at Stuttgart Terminal 2?

Not at Terminal 2 itself — it handles departures only and has no arrivals hall. Arriving flights come out at Terminal 1, 3 or 4, and that is where your driver will be waiting.

Which airlines check in at Stuttgart Terminal 2?

Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners. That is a departure fact only: a Lufthansa flight into Stuttgart lands and disembarks at one of the terminals that has arrivals.

I told someone to meet me at Terminal 2 — what now?

Walk. The four terminals stand in a row along a single road and the whole length is five to ten minutes on foot, with a free shuttle bus every ten to fifteen minutes as an alternative. It is an inconvenience rather than a problem.

Where should my driver drop me for a Lufthansa departure?

Terminal 2, at the check-in kerb. The short-stop zone gives eight free minutes, which covers unloading comfortably. Departures are the one journey where the terminal on your ticket is the right instruction.
